Reimbursement
through a
Superbill

What is a Superbill?

A superbill is a detailed receipt that you can submit to your insurance company to request reimbursement for services. Because Ripple Effect OT is an out-of-network provider, payment is made at the time of service by the family to the OT, and reimbursement is handled directly between you and your insurance company, after services have been provided. It can be helpful to contact your insurance ahead of time to know if partial or full reimbursement may be an option.

Potential questions to ask your insurance provider:

  • Do I have out-of-network benefits for occupational therapy?

  • What percentage of services will be reimbursed?

  • Do I need a referral or prescription from a physician?

  • Is preauthorization required?

  • Is there a deductible I need to meet first?

  • Are there limits on number of visits?

  • Is a medical diagnosis required?

Receiving Your Superbill

  • You will receive a superbill from the OT monthly (or upon request)

Submit Your Superbill

Typically you can submit your superbill to your insurance company through the following avenues, but it may be helpful to confirm with them the best way to do this:

  • Uploading through your insurance portal

  • Mailing it in

  • Submitting through an app (if your insurance provides one)

Important Things to note:

  • Reimbursement from private insurance is not guaranteed

  • Coverage varies widely between insurance plans
